    POSITION:             Production Supervisor

    DEPARTMENT:     News

    REPORTS TO:       News Director

    Responsibilities

    MAJOR PURPOSE: Under administrative supervision of the News Director, the Production Supervisor is responsible for assisting in hiring, training and overseeing the pro¬duction assistants, directors, editors and audio operators. The primary focus is to improve the quality of productions by initiating and implementing changes that create a more compelling and current production on all platforms.

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Effectively assist Director of Technology in technical aspects of Production Department to include upgrades and replacements of gear and equipment

    • Manage/maintain scheduling of production personnel to ensure proper coverage for Newscasts, Specials, Remote and Studio shoots

    • Strategic planning for latest industry trends, upgrade opportunities as well as obstacles to our “On-Air” product

    • Responsible for hiring, motivating, training and successfully leading Production staff and personnel to function in a winning team environment. Responsible for scheduling production team as well.

    • Coordinate/manage all aspects of the “Air-Check” library

    • Train employees and maintain lighting control system for Studio and Special lighting needs

    • Train and coordinate newsroom editors on new/updated systems

    • Coordinate “on-the-job training” of Production Assistants for coverage needs and internal promotion

    • Assure proper production operation of our KTXL/FOX40 product with optimum quality while conforming to all FCC and FAA rules and regulations for our content

    • To work closely with the other departments to optimize station performance

    • Assist with inventory control of Station assets

    • Additional duties as necessary and/or assigned

    • Plan specific aural and. visual details, including set design, staging, camera shots and effects, to obtain the most effective presentation.

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience:

    • 4 year degree in Production with equivalent experience

    • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in technical management of a Production Team

    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Production, Audio, and Control Room atmospheres

     

     

    Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Must be able to deal confidentially with sensitive employee and Station information • Understanding and ability to train employees in the operation of our technical equipment associated with Production and Production Control

    • General knowledge of specialized and standard broadcast test equipment

    • General knowledge of the rules and regulations of the FCC

    • Advanced computer skills to include creation and use of databases, spreadsheets, scheduling software, and other software as required for editing and FTP transfers

    • Valid California Driver’s license, good driving record, and proven ability to drive large vehicles

    • This position requires an “on call” status during emergencies, breakdown of critical equipment, and scheduling issues that can affect the operation and air quality of the KTXL/FOX40 product

    • Must have the ability to make decisions and take prompt action

    • Must be able to work alone and unsupervised when necessary

    • Must have attention to detail with great accuracy

    • Coordination and operational abilities to provide spontaneous and scheduled support for live products outside the normal Control Room and Studio scenario

    • Some travel may be necessary

     

     

    Working Relationships:

    • Ability to work closely with all departments to determine and seek resolution in a timely manner

    • Ability to work closely with all departments to determine and correct issues logically and methodically

    • Cooperation with staff both within KTXL, other broadcast operations, and Tribune Corporate staff

    • Must be an example and enforce the standards of the policies of KTXL

     

    Physical Demands:

    • Heavy computer usage

    • Ability and range of motion to use hands to do simple grasping, pushing, and pulling

    • Must be able to drive, climb, reach above shoulder level, and lift/carry up to 25 lbs.

     

    Work Environment:

    • Work performed primarily in the Control Room, Studio, Remote/Live locations sites and in an office environment

    • Ability and dexterity to work in a Control Room atmosphere as well as in a Studio environment where multi-tasking is the norm

    • May be exposed to the following conditions: heat/cold, dust, dampness, moving machinery, fumes, loud noises, height, confined spaces, electrical equipment
