    Unique position to cover government and state politics in the State of Missouri.  This Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) will report for four Missouri television markets including St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield and Joplin, with a potential reach of 2.4 million television households.  The Bureau Chief will work five days a week out of an established office in Jefferson City, Missouri.  The candidate selected for this position must possess strong knowledge of government, legislative structure and legislative priorities in the State of Missouri.  Organizational strengths are a must as the Bureau Chief will work five days a week to plan coverage in the state capital including legislation debated and voted on by both the Missouri Senate and House of Representatives during their sessions.  The MMJ will need to have strong technical skills to shoot, edit and provide live shots daily to Missouri Nexstar stations.  In addition, the Bureau Chief will develop contacts statewide to insure coverage meets standards for journalistic integrity, accuracy and fairness.  The candidate selected will work daily with all Missouri Nexstar stations to set coverage priorities, and will report to the VP News of KTVI in St. Louis. 



    Successful candidate will shoot, write and edit custom daily broadcast content for each market, be available for daily live shots in all four markets, and update content on various web and digital platforms.

You must have the ability to uncover stories, and develop professional contacts with experts, government officials and other important figures to best obtain news information.


    This position requires significant industry experience and a bachelor’s degree in journalism or mass communications.


    Principal Duties & Responsibilities:


    * Build network of informational sources that will enable the company to stay ahead of its competitors.

    * Develop ideas for news, feature and enterprise pieces, as well as investigative stories.

    * Collect and analyze facts about newsworthy events by interview, investigation, or observation.

    * Gather accurate and interesting information for newscast presentations.

    * Shoots and edits daily news video stories.

    * Present clear, creative and accurate live shots.

    * Produce accurate, complete and compelling news copy on deadline.

    * Play an active and visible role in the community


    Specialized Knowledge/Skills/Abilities


    * Excellent reading, writing, spelling, grammar and organizational skills.

    * Team player that maintains attitude of cooperation with all station personnel.

    * Proficient at shooting, screening, logging and editing video, and providing written editing instructions to tape editors, when applicable

    * Proficient in social networking sites.

    * Adept at ad-lib presentations, without aid of scripts and/or teleprompters.

    * Possess exceptional research skills.




    Operate newsroom computer systems, editing, live and camera equipment.

    Work Environment/Mental/Physical Requirements: High stress environment with deadline pressures. Travel could be required on a regular basis. Position requires the transport of equipment weighing up to 60 lbs. Position could require work in extreme outdoor temperatures.  Must have a valid driver's license (or be able to get one).
